About Us

Canada is a big country and how Canadians use language can vary from place to place. We're here to help newcomers "understand Canadians."

Our goal is to provide materials that will help improve communication between people living, studying and working in Canada.

Edward Shaw has over 15 years of experience teaching English as a foreign language in Canada. A Cambridge-certified teacher of English as an Additional Language (TEAL), Edward guides our writing by asking the questions his students ask him. In an effort to make our books easy to understand, our definitions and examples use words well-understood by most students of English as a foreign language.

Alison Bambury has over 20 years of professional experience in communications, research and event planning. She has travelled across Canada and enjoys exploring new communities from coast to coast to coast.
